Her Land, Her Love Student Workbook and Teacher’s Guide
As the new school year begins, we here at Salina Bookshelf have been creating more teaching materials that are accessible to students, parents, and teachers who may be social distancing and learning and teaching from home.
We want to announce the release of the Her Land, Her Love Student Workbook and Her Land, Her Love Teacher’s Guide. Her Land, Her Love is a historical novel enriched with Navajo history, language, political systems, culture and traditions practiced around the Long Walk era. Evangeline Parsons Yazzie Ed.D. has created a workbook and teacher’s guide correlated to the Navajo Nation Department of Diné Education standards.
The Her Land, Her Love Student Workbook includes comprehension questions for classroom discussion, Navajo and English vocabulary, puzzles and activities to practice vocabulary comprehension, activities that further geographical knowledge through mapmaking of relevant landscapes, and questions further exploring Navajo culture and traditions of the past and present.
The Her Land, Her Love Teacher’s Guide, in addition to everything included in the Student Workbook, includes Navajo Nation Department of Diné Education Standards on Diné Culture, Diné History, Diné Character Building, and Diné Oral Language standards. It also includes Goals and Objectives at the start of every chapter and rubrics for measuring Navajo language speaking, and Navajo and English reading, writing, and listening skills.
